Keep Going (Leadership Thought Of The Day)

“Strength grows in the moments when you think you can’t go on but you keep going anyway.”            Ed Mylett

I woke up this morning and had no desire to get out of bed. My head hurt, my body was tired, and my motivation was running on empty. I hopped on Instagram and went straight to the account of Ed Mylett.

Leadership Thought Of The Day

I was recently complaining to a good friend of mine about not being as good as some of the people that I look to as examples. I was talking about how talented and successful they are while simultaneously complaining about how I am not good enough.  After spending about thirty minutes complaining, I was hit with this sobering truth:

Leadership Thought Of The Day

I started training at a local Jiu Jitsu gym about a month ago. I started off strong by attending almost every class available for two weeks straight. I was obsessed for those two weeks. After going pretty consistently, I had to miss a class at the beginning of week three. Missing that one class sent me on a downward spiral that has resulted in me missing class for two weeks in a row. My pride was hurt that I missed that class and I was scared of my coach being disappointed, so I stopped going altogether..

Leadership Thought Of The Day

It is so easy to find yourself surrounded by comfort and convenience. I have slowly started to realize that I love being comfortable. I don’t mean comfy on the couch. I mean comfortable with my goals, dreams, and effort in my everyday life. The biggest lesson that I am currently learning is that comfort is not often a good thing.

Leadership Thought Of The Day

I had the opportunity to sit down with my brother today for lunch. I sat across from him and asked him for advice on how to move forward with transitions in my life. I had a bunch of internal conflict and I knew he would listen and give me some solid advice. He told me to be patient and calm down a little bit. If you don’t know me, please know that I am not a very patient or calm person. I want to jump into things 100% right out of the gate.

Leadership Thought Of The Day

I had the opportunity to meet with a good friend of mine today. I try to meet with two to three mentors per week to pick their brains. Today we talked through the importance of training leaders to be informed and equipped to raise up other leaders. We were specifically talking about doing this in the context of church leadership.

Leadership Thought Of The Day

“When we dare to focus, a thousand other things beg for our attention.”

Jon Acuff, Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done

Every time I try to work on a project, it seems like I am bombarded with a thousand distractions. This quote from Jon Acuff helped me realize the importance of being aware of distractions.

Leadership Thought Of The Day

“The harder you try to be perfect, the less likely you’ll accomplish your goal.”

Jon Acuff, Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done

This thought from Jon Acuff was a game changer for me. I have always thought that goals and the process to achieve goals had to be this perfect, polished process. The idea that perfectionism actually hurts my ability to achieve goals flipped my world upside-down.

Leadership Thought Of The Day

What would it take for you to impact one person’s life today?

I ask myself that question every day. I think we belittle the power of our influence. Everyday we are surrounded by people that want to be loved, noticed, and inspired. If you don’t believe me, ask the person next to you if they like being loved!
