Stop and Celebrate

I walk down the stairs on this beautiful December morning, only to discover my backyard has been painted white. I stop and stare for a moment. My brain takes me back to those winter mornings years ago when my siblings and I would race outside to build snowmen and throw snowballs. I smile when I remember us rushing to the television to see if the news channel has announced the cancellation of that day’s school classes. The moment we found out that we didn’t have school, we would drop everything and begin to plan out our day. Would we go sledding? Would we hangout with friends? Would we build snowmen? Would we have snowball fights? I cannot help but feel a sense of nostalgia this morning as I stare into my snow filled backyard. I will celebrate the memories of my childhood while I enjoy the blessings that present themselves today. I will smile and laugh as I watch my dogs play in the snow, and I will find a way to hit my brother with a snowball regardless of the cost. I will enjoy today because today is meant to be enjoyed.

I hope that you would find joy in the smallest of memories and the biggest of blessings. Regardless of the baggage going on in your life, stop and celebrate the beauty of creation around you. Life is difficult and there is no way to avoid it. The greatest thing you could do for yourself today is to smile, laugh, and enjoy the people around you. I pray that you would not waste today.

As for me, I will be enjoying hot chocolate, Christmas movies, and my family as we meet to celebrate my mom’s birthday. I will choose to enjoy this snow filled, winter day.
